Students must read a minimun
of five books from the suggested author list.
- Books that are taught in the S-E English Curriculum are not
acceptable extra reading choices.
- You may choose any book by the listed
authors. You may also add authors of literary quality
available from your public library recommended by your librarian.
Remember this list is not all inclusive. There are many
fine choices not listed here.
Students must turn in a list
of their books by the first Friday in September to
their English teacher with student and parent signatures stating that the student
honestly met the challenge.
Students who meet the challenge
will have a letter attached to their official school transcript
to be sent to prospective colleges. This declaration will
include the list of titles read and a statement that the program
is a voluntary challenge above and beyond the standard high school
curriculum. If at any time it is ascertained that a student has
cheated, this information will also be noted in the student transcript.
Our objective as an English
Department is not only to encourage reading outside the classroom
but also to give our students an opportunity to distinguish themselves
from the norm.
